400 g potato dough mixture
600 ml water
ground poppy seeds or chopped nuts
or chunky curd cheese
butter or lard
powdered sugar

“My grandmother used to make the best ones.” This is what we can hear when people start talking about potato gnocchi with poppy seeds. Treat yourselves or your children to an easy, fast and gluten-free variation.

 

Prepare the dough following the basic recipe and form the gnocchi. Cook them in slightly salted boiling water for about 10 minutes. Then strain them, let them drain and let water evaporate.

 

You can choose from two recipes to finish the dish. Some grandmothers used to fry the cooked gnocchi on heated lard. The ready gnocchi is then spread on a plate and sprinkled with what we most enjoy. Ground poppy seeds, chopped nuts or chunky curd cheese with powdered sugar.

 

Or you can spread the gnocchi on a plate, sprinkle with what you want, add sugar and spill melted butter or lard on top. Do not be scared of the combination of lard and a sweet dish. The taste of the poppy seeds, potato dough and lard belong together and there are many who cannot imagine it any other way.
